Statistics & Data

Lately, I’ve been interested in developing a stronger foundation when it comes to my mathematical knowledge. To do that, I’ve been doing tutorials on Khan Academy in both Algebra and Statistics, though I’ve recently made a commit to finish the Statistics course before the end of the year.

This has been an interesting development as someone who has largely avoided math for the past 9 years, as it wasn’t required in my undergrad program. I feel I was able to catch up just enough to be able to finish my CS bridge program and my Master’s degree, but I’ve been enjoying learning of my own volition at a more relaxed pace.

In my undergraduate program, I took a class on research: how to conduct a research project from the initial idea to the final presentation. The most interesting part of that class for me was conducting statistical analyses using R as our primary tool. This really ignited a passion for learning more about what stories we can tell with data and how compute power can elevate this process.

I’ve been thinking about how I can incorporate more data-driven projects into my work. Maybe I’ll have more updates on that in the future.
